Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at fighting back depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

If you want to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Grains can be good for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
