Foods That Make You Happy
Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to keep away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. Some foods really do boost your mood when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.
If you wish to fight depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest them faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know it can help improve your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
