Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are some foods that actually can improve your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat a couple of eggs to feel better!
Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for improving your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.
If you want to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.
Grains can be great for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know green tea can help improve your mood too!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these tips instead.
