Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming some eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a superb protein source.

If you want to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you be happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can really bring you down! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
