Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
In general, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are wonderful at fighting depression. You must see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and jolly up!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.
It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to make your mood better. It’s not hard to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become healthier. And now you know it can help you be happier as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Go with these hints instead!
